MICHAEL HALL CAUGHT IN FRANCE BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS AFTER SENDING SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MESSAGES TO 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that highlights the ongoing dangers of online grooming and the vigilance of paedophile hunter groups, Michael Hall, a 53-year-old man originally from Berkshire, was recently convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for his predatory behavior. Hall, who has since relocated to France, became the subject of a sting operation after he engaged in a series of disturbing communications with a person he believed was a 13-year-old girl.According to court records, Hall initially met the girl on the adult dating website Loveoo, where he began exchanging messages that quickly turned sexually explicit. He repeatedly asked her to send photographs of herself in underwear or swimsuits, and he also sent explicit images of himself, including pictures involving a sex toy. His messages contained instructions for her to use fruit as a sex toy, further demonstrating his inappropriate intentions.
Despite his persistent attempts to arrange a physical meeting, Hall’s plans were thwarted by his own apprehensions. He reportedly became hesitant when he was about to meet the girl in Reading, claiming she was too young and expressing fears of going to prison if he proceeded. His reluctance was evident when he told her he was scared of the legal consequences, which ultimately prevented the meeting from taking place.
Unbeknownst to Hall, the individual he was communicating with was not a minor but a member of the paedophile hunter group known as the Geordie Chasers. This group had set up a sting outside Reading railway station in mid-2018 after Hall traveled from France to meet what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
During the investigation, Hall denied numerous child sex offenses, claiming he believed the girl was an adult aged between 18 and 24. However, the evidence presented in court proved otherwise. The jury at Oxford Crown Court found him guilty on seven counts, including attempted sexual communication with a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, and attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes.
Judge Ian Pringle QC sentenced Hall to four years in prison and imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. The judge emphasized that the jury’s verdict clearly indicated that Hall believed the girl was only 13 years old, contradicting his claims of believing she was an adult. As a result of his conviction, Hall will be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public from potential harm in the future.
