Tania James, 48, repeatedly punched her girlfriend to the head and face and dragged her by the hair along the ground in a sustained attack after she danced with another woman at a family party. The assault, captured on ring doorbell footage, left the victim bloodied with serious facial injuries, including damage to her eye socket, and large amounts of hair ripped out.
Prosecutors described the incident as 'nasty' and James was left ‘shocked and confused’ by her actions.
The victim’s mother, attending court, described her daughter as still too traumatised to be present, stating, “It was horrific.
It was so out of the blue from someone who she cared for and trusted.
It was a family party and she was dancing with her own sister-in-law.
Tania suddenly just walked out.
I said to see if she is OK and that’s when it happened because she was jealous.” The court heard that James, who lives in Walnut Way, Dereham, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage to a T-shirt destroyed during the incident.
She was sentenced to a 12-month community order, with a requirement to wear an alcohol abstinence monitoring tag for 60 days, and was prohibited from contact with her former partner and going to an address in North Pickenham.
She was also ordered to pay £150 in compensation.
The offender expressed shame and remorse, with her mitigation stating, “She is disgusted, appalled and ashamed that someone she desperately loved was hurt in this incident.”
