PRESTON MAN AVOIDS JAIL DESPITE CROPPING DOGS' EARS
A Lancashire man named Quarn Gonzales has avoided jail despite illegal practices involving the cropping of dogs' ears.
The RSPCA gathered intelligence from Gonzales' social media accounts that revealed images of young dogs with cropped ears, along with previous pictures showing their ears intact.
In September 2022, authorities raided his property in Colwyn Place, Preston, where they found nine dogs and eight puppies living in poor conditions.
The dogs showed signs of suffering, with some having healed ear crop scars, untreated injuries, and illnesses including inflammation and pressure lesions.
One puppy exhibited neurological issues and was euthanised for welfare reasons.
Gonzales pleaded guilty to eight offences under the Animal Welfare Act and was sentenced at Lancaster Magistrates Court.
He received a 20-week custodial sentence, suspended for two years, and was disqualified from keeping animals for ten years.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £2,000, and a confiscation order was imposed to allow the RSPCA to take possession of any further animals he owns.
Gonzales denied ownership of the puppies, claiming they belonged to someone else, but failed to provide any contact details.
