TEEN KICKED GIRLFRIEND AFTER PULLING HER TO GROUND BY HAIR IN UNPROVOKED ATTACK
South Tyneside teenager kicked his girlfriend in the leg after pulling her to the ground by the hair in an unprovoked street attack.Presley Robinson, aged 19, struck her friend in the throat with his elbow when she came to the aid of another individual on East Street in central South Shields on Sunday, March 2.
Robinson, whose address is Hertford Street, Horsley Hill, South Shields, argued that his second assault was committed recklessly rather than intentionally.
This explanation was accepted by the prosecutor Holly Clegg during the hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, where Robinson admitted to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Ms Clegg outlined that one of the assaults was linked to domestic violence.
The incident involved Robinson being in a two-year relationship with the victim.
She described how both victims were walking together on the street when Robinson became visibly agitated.
He was seen pulling the victim by her hair, causing her to fall to the ground.
While she was on the ground, Robinson kicked her leg.
His friend attempted to intervene to protect the injured woman.
During this altercation, Robinson elbowed the friend in the throat, an act which he claimed was done recklessly, a position supported by the Crown.
The court was informed that Robinson has no previous criminal record but has been involved in 41 domestic-related police calls since October 2023.
Of these, his girlfriend described as high-risk was the victim in 27 cases, and Robinson was named in one additional incident involving domestic abuse.
Additionally, the victim’s partner did not support the prosecution, telling police he had done nothing wrong, Ms Clegg added.
A Probation Service report revealed that Robinson admitted to daily cannabis use and possibly cocaine use.
A spokeswoman indicated that he claimed to have grabbed his partner’s hair to prevent her from walking into the road.
She noted that he would benefit from assessment for drug use, but thus far, he has shown little motivation for help.
District Judge Zoe Passfield ordered a drug rehabilitation assessment and remanded Robinson into custody to be brought back to court for sentencing on Friday, March 21.
The judge justified the remand due to his lack of suitable accommodation but suggested he might be released earlier if circumstances allow.
