'ONE CHANCE' - ABUSIVE JARROW 'TEXT-PEST' KEEPS FREEDOM AFTER KILL THREATS
A man who harassed his girlfriend by sending abusive messages, including threats to kill her, has been granted a final opportunity to remain free.Aaron Ebanks reached out to his partner throughout the day and night after an argument in their home last October, using WhatsApp, text messages, and Facebook voice recordings.
During a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, the 34-year-old acknowledged that his conduct was appalling and was given one last chance to alter his behavior.
Prosecutor Daniel Ingham explained that after the couple’s dispute, the victim left their residence to visit a shop to clear her mind.
During her time away, she began to receive threatening messages, which she described as terrifying in her statement.
Mr.
Ingham highlighted that Ebanks sent voice notes via Facebook in which he stated he would assault her all over.
He also used derogatory terms, calling her a rat and a slut, and questioned her whereabouts.
The messages culminated in threats to kill her and claims she would be hit.
Ebanks, of Wilkinson Court, Jarrow, South Tyneside, admitted to intimidating someone with harassment that caused fear of violence.
Judge Amanda Rippon sentenced him to a two-year community order with conditions aimed at rehabilitation.
Addressing Ebanks, the judge said, "I am going to give you a chance.
I only grant one.
You need to take this seriously.
Sometimes people do not when given chances and they end up back here, facing stricter consequences.
Just don’t come back." Ebanks responded from the dock, "I won't.
It's disgusting.
That's not me." Glen Gatland, representing Ebanks, explained that he has been staying at his grandfather’s residence and has been making efforts to improve himself.
It was noted that Ebanks had spent over 300 days in custody or on electronic monitoring.
At the conclusion of the hearing, the judge advised, "It’s very sensible if you do not rekindle this relationship."
