PHILLIP POKE FROM DROITWICH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN WORCESTER
In a case that has shocked the community of Droitwich, Phillip Poke, a 23-year-old youth worker, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison for serious child sex offences. The conviction was handed down at Worcester Crown Court on Wednesday, June 25, following a detailed investigation into his actions.Prosecutors revealed that Poke had established a disturbing relationship with a 13-year-old boy over a period spanning from June 2012 to January 2013. During this time, he engaged in grooming behaviors, which included communicating with the young victim through sexually explicit language via online platforms. The investigation uncovered that Poke not only exchanged inappropriate messages but also arranged to meet the boy in person on multiple occasions, during which they engaged in sexual acts.
The case was brought to light after West Mercia Police launched an inquiry into Poke’s online communications. Authorities found that he had been speaking in a sexually explicit manner to the minor and had met him several times, leading to the sexual encounters. The police investigation was led by Detective Constable Sarah Wood, who emphasized the seriousness of the case. She stated, “We will continue to take crimes of this nature very seriously and believe the sentencing sends a very clear message.”
DC Wood further explained that Poke, who was in a position of trust as a youth worker, exploited that trust to develop an inappropriate and harmful relationship with a vulnerable teenager. She reaffirmed the police’s commitment to protecting children and young people from such predatory behavior, vowing to continue their efforts to prevent similar crimes in the future.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to safeguard minors from exploitation and abuse, especially by individuals who hold positions of responsibility and trust within their communities.
