PAEDOPHILE ADMITS HORRIFIC SEX ATTACKS ON SEVEN-YEAR-OLD
A PAEDOPHILE who carried on playing club cricket with children despite a court ban has now admitted a string of sex attacks on a young child.Alexander Hawkes, of Shirley Road, Droitwich, appeared before Worcester Crown Court via a video link from prison on Tuesday (December 2).
Hawkes had been due to stand trial on December 15 accused of sex attacks on a child as young as seven years old after initially pleading not guilty.
However, following legal discussion, the 52-year-old changed his plea and admitted a total of six charges.
Three of those were assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and the other three were for making indecent photographs of a child.
Hawkes, wearing a brown lumberjack shirt and grey jumper, spoke only to confirm his details and enter his pleas via the video link from HMP Fosse Way in Leicester.
The court heard that he has a previous conviction for stalking and had breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Hawkes was told that a substantial custodial term was inevitable.
Judge James Burbidge KC, the Honorary Recorder of Worcester, said: "I think there should be a report on dangerousness." Judge Burbidge adjourned the case for the report to be prepared on Hawkes.
He will be sentenced on January 29 at Worcester Crown Court.
Hawkes had appeared at Kidderminster magistrates' court earlier this year having breached the SHPO.
The court heard that on July 8, police had visited Hawkes as part of their monitoring of sex offenders with a SHPO.
The officers saw he had a white cricket jumper on and Hawkes told them he played the sport regularly with matches at Cutnall Green cricket ground.
Several teams play cricket at the ground.
Hawkes had continued playing matches despite the SHPO banning him from contact with anyone under 16.
Prosecutor Camila Toscano said: "Mr Hawkes has never disclosed to the cricket club that he's on the sex offenders' register," she said.
"He had played cricket the day before, on July 7, against a 13-year-old boy." On that occasion, magistrates sentenced Hawkes to 18 months in jail, 10 months for the breach of the SHPO and failure to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders' register and they activated the earlier suspended sentence of eight months.
