CARLTON MAN JAILED FOR POSSESSING OVER 1,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A 41-year-old man named Phillip Cliffe from Carlton has been sentenced to four years in prison after police uncovered a disturbing collection of over 1,000 child sexual abuse images on his electronic devices. His case came to attention when his IP address was traced to these illicit images in October 2023.
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police searched his residence, where they seized various electronic devices including a laptop and a memory stick.
Analysis of these devices revealed thousands of images depicting the sexual abuse of children, with some showing babies, and approximately 1,000 categorized as Category A, indicating the most severe abuse.
Cliffe refused to answer questions during arrest.
He later appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on March 7, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, possessing a prohibited image of a child, and possessing extreme (adult) pornographic images.
Detective Constable Richard Cashmore from Nottinghamshire Police stated, 'Cliffe was found in possession of some of the most disgusting and disturbing images and videos I have viewed.
I sometimes hear people referring to such material as 'child pornography' - but in reality there is no such thing.
What there is instead are still and moving images of the most appalling sexual abuse committed against children who are too young to understand let alone consent to what is happening to them.
Even though people like Cliffe are not carrying out this abuse themselves, they are directly contributing to it by consuming such material.
I am pleased he has now been jailed and hope this sentence serves as a warning to others about acting in the same way.'
