CARLTON DRUG ADDICT SENTENCED FOR THREATENING FAMILY WITH HOUSE FIRE
A drug addict son has been sentenced to prison after he poured petrol around the family home.
Guy Harker, who was upset and demanded money from his mother on December 1 last year, continued his abusive behavior via text messages even after she handed him £45.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that Harker sent threatening messages, stating "I'm going to smash your house to pieces" and "I'm going to burn your house down." The situation escalated when Harker attempted to break into his daughter's bedroom and poured petrol over the house, leaving the contents of a can of petrol inside the family residence.
Firefighters discovered petrol poured inside, with the can left on its side in the living room.
Harker was arrested and pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage, threatening to destroy property, damaging a door, and sending malicious communications.
Judge James Sampson sentenced him to 18 months in prison, with Harker serving half, emphasizing the seriousness of his threats and the danger they posed, especially given his drug addiction.
The judge described the threats as "very serious," noting how fortunate it was that the situation did not escalate further.
