PHILIP TRIMBLE JAILED FOR 18 YEARS IN KETTERING FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES

In a case that has shocked the community of Kettering, Philip Trimble, aged 59, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving children. The court heard that Trimble, a former alcoholic, was convicted on ten counts that included rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency, following a trial at Northampton Crown Court.

Despite his conviction, Trimble continues to assert his innocence regarding the allegations. He claims he did not commit the acts he was accused of, which involved three young victims, one of whom was as young as seven years old at the time of the abuse. The jury, however, rejected his denials, concluding that the abuse did indeed occur.

Prosecutor Alastair Smith detailed the gravity of the crimes, emphasizing that Trimble had been entrusted with the care of the children but instead exploited that trust. One victim endured what was described as six years of ongoing rape at the hands of Trimble. The offenses took place over a period spanning from 1991 to 2002, and the victims, whose identities are protected by law, were subjected to degrading and traumatic experiences.

Trimble, who resides on Birch Road in Kettering, was handed an 18-year prison sentence by Judge Charles Wide QC. Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Wide expressed profound disapproval of Trimble’s actions, highlighting the breach of trust involved and the impact on the victims. The judge stated, “I have to deal with you for very, very serious sexual offences. These offences were committed in gross breach of trust, and that’s especially true of the second victim – it’s hard to imagine a more gross breach of trust. Her family thought she was safe with you, but she was not, because she was being continually raped by you. It’s not surprising she suffered and now feels her childhood was stolen from her.”

The judge further explained that the combination of the breach of trust, the ongoing nature of the abuse, and the victims’ young ages warranted a lengthy sentence. The case has left a lasting impact on the victims, one of whom issued a statement through Northamptonshire Police, expressing the emotional toll and gratitude for the support received. She stated, “This has been a very difficult time, and the repercussions of this crime do not end with the conclusion of the justice process. It has caused difficulties which will be difficult to repair. We wish to thank the police for listening to us and for their investigation, and also want to thank the witness service for their help. They have made the daunting process of going to court easier. We feel that this case shows it is never too late to report abuse and would encourage anyone in a situation like ours to come forward. No-one should tolerate this kind of offence. We now hope to be able to get on with rebuilding our lives.”

Defense attorney John Lloyd-Jones stated that Trimble maintains his innocence, asserting, “He resolutely maintains the denials he unsuccessfully maintained at trial.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and the devastating consequences of betrayal by trusted individuals in the community of Kettering.
