In a recent development in the ongoing fight against child exploitation, Philip Matthews, a 41-year-old man with ties to both Truro and Newquay, has been handed a prison sentence of two and a half years.

This sentencing comes shortly after Matthews was caught viewing disturbing images of child sexual abuse, a crime that has once again brought to light the serious issues surrounding online exploitation.

Matthews' criminal history includes a previous conviction from August of the previous year, where he was found guilty of similar offences.

Just weeks after being given the leniency of a suspended sentence, Matthews was found to be actively viewing and possessing further illicit material.

Authorities discovered that he had been viewing images depicting children as young as six and seven years old.

The investigation uncovered a total of 201 such images stored on his electronic devices, a find that shocked law enforcement officials and underscored the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Matthews.

Following the discovery, Matthews was immediately taken into custody and sentenced to a term of two and a half years in prison.
