BIRMINGHAM RAPIST SENTENCED TO LIFE AFTER HORRIFIC KNIFE ATTACK ON TEEN PROSTITUTE
A man identified as Philip Jarrett, aged 36, of Raleigh Close, Handsworth, was sentenced to life imprisonment after committing a brutal sexual assault and knife attack on a teenage prostitute. The incident occurred in June of the previous year, where Jarrett, who had pleaded guilty to charges of rape and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, targeted a 16-year-old girl working as a prostitute in Gillott Road, Edgbaston.
Prosecutor James Wood detailed how Jarrett lured the victim into his car following a conversation, drove her to a secluded garage area, and then produced a large kitchen knife hidden in his sock.
Jarrett threatened her, held the weapon to her neck, and raped her.
He then inflicted severe knife wounds on her face, arms, legs, and chest—some going to the bone and severing nerves and tendons.
The victim, now 17, was left disfigured for life and had to wear a wig and makeup to cover her scars.
The injury was described by Judge Robert Orme as "the worst he had ever seen".
Jarrett was taken to court and sentenced for his actions, which resulted in a conviction of life imprisonment for the rape and grievous bodily harm.
The court also noted that some of the wounds on the victim were inflicted over 20 times, revealing the severity of the attack.
