PHILIP HOLMES JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN KEIGHLEY AND WORCESTER

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Keighley and Worcester, a 57-year-old man named Philip Holmes has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to sexually abusing a young girl over a decade ago.

The incident came to light when Holmes himself walked into Keighley Police Station and confessed to the authorities that he had indecently touched the girl when she was approximately five years old, Bradford Crown Court was told during the hearing.

Holmes, who was described during the proceedings as having an otherwise exemplary character, had spent many years working in what was referred to as "a caring profession." Despite this, his past actions have now overshadowed his reputation.

His legal representative, Andrew Haslam, explained that Holmes had been haunted by guilt and believed that coming forward might encourage his victim to seek the help she needed.

The court was informed that Holmes, who was formerly residing in Keighley but has since moved to Battenhall Hall Road in Worcester, admitted to sexually abusing the girl on two separate occasions by touching her indecently.

Prosecutor Sarah-Kate McIntyre revealed that the young girl confided in her mother about the abuse at the time, but she did not wish for anyone else to be informed.

The emotional toll of the abuse reportedly had a lasting impact on the victim, who, years later, resorted to overdosing and self-harming as a way to cope with the trauma inflicted by Holmes.

Holmes pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13, acknowledging his guilt for offenses committed more than ten years ago.

His lawyer, Mr.

Haslam, expressed that Holmes was deeply ashamed and overwhelmed with regret for his actions, which had caused significant harm to the young girl.

The court also heard that Holmes’ marriage had ended, and he was now experiencing a profound sense of isolation and remorse.

As part of his sentence, Holmes is required to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years.

Additionally, the judge imposed an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from making any contact with his victim to prevent further harm or distress.
