PHILIP EVEREST SENTENCED IN RAINHAM AND GREAT WAKERING CASE FOR DECADES-OLD SEXUAL ABUSE
In a case that has spanned over three decades, Philip Everest, a 48-year-old man from Rainham, was sentenced to a year in prison by a judge at Basildon Crown Court for his involvement in the sexual abuse of young girls in the late 1970s and early 1980s.The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the offenses that took place in the vicinity of Great Wakering, a small community where the incidents reportedly occurred.
Everest, residing on Rothbury Avenue in Rainham, faced multiple charges related to the sexual misconduct involving two girls who were under the age of 10 at the time.
During the trial, Everest denied raping one of the girls, and the jury ultimately acquitted him of that specific charge.
Nevertheless, he was convicted of indecently assaulting her on November 24, 1978, a conviction that underscores the severity of the allegations.
In addition to the charges concerning the 1978 incident, Everest also faced accusations of indecent assault and indecency with a child concerning another offense committed in 1980.
Despite his initial denials, the court found him guilty of both these charges, further highlighting the pattern of misconduct that the prosecution argued spanned several years.
Judge Ian Graham, presiding over the case, chose not to impose a sexual offenders prevention order, citing the significant lapse of time since the offenses occurred.
