RAINHAM MAN SENTENCED AFTER STRANGLING WOMAN AND TAKING DOG
A Rainham man has been jailed for domestic violence offences.Adomas Daubaris, 57, of Cherry Tree Lane, strangled his then-partner on two occasions in July and September last year.
After he had left following the second attack, the victim woke in the middle of the night to find him back inside her home.
Daubaris was arrested at the scene and later pleaded guilty to two charges of intentional strangulation.
He was released on bail but later turned up at the victim’s house on Christmas Day and again on December 27, taking the victim’s dog on the second occasion.
He has been in custody since the end of December and has pleaded guilty to a further charge of harassment.
At Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday (March 11) Daubaris was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the strangulations.
Judge Alexia Power told the defendant: “People in intimate relationships should be able to trust and feel safe with their partner.
They are entitled to respect and love.
Strangulation is neither of those things.” Daubaris told the court he is remorseful and knows that what he did was wrong.
He blamed alcohol for his offending and had been drinking on a daily basis.
In an impact statement, the victim described feeling frightened in her own home since the attacks.
A restraining order was made banning Daubaris from contacting the victim upon his release.
Daubaris will be sentenced for the offence of harassment in the magistrates' court at a later date.
