2016: JAILED: THUG PETER MULLANY WHO BROKE GIRLFRIEND'S JAW DURING NEW YEAR'S DAY ROW IN RADCLIFFE
A man who fractured his girlfriend's jaw during a dispute on New Year's Day has been sentenced to 14 months in prison. At Bolton Crown Court, it was revealed that Peter Mullany caused the injury after becoming enraged when his partner of three years, Hannah Ridgley, spat at him.
Prosecutor Elizabeth Evans explained that the couple had been drinking with others at Mullany's sister's residence when he objected to Ms.
Ridgley assisting another male guest.
The situation escalated as Mullany became verbally abusive and physically aggressive after the other man left the property in Radcliffe.
Mullany punched Ms.
Ridgley following her spat, then later followed her into the living room and struck her across the face with his hand.
Ms.
Ridgley managed to escape the house and later sought treatment at Fairfield Hospital, where doctors confirmed her jaw was broken.
Mullany, aged 33, admitted responsibility for her injury and pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.
The court noted Mullany's lengthy criminal history, which includes 35 convictions covering 82 offences, among them harassment and assaulting Ms.
Ridgley.
Defense lawyer Nicholas Clarke emphasized that Mullany did not intend to harm his partner, pointed out that no weapons were involved, and that he is articulate and intelligent when sober.
Nevertheless, he has struggled with a severe alcohol addiction, which has led to numerous periods in and out of prison over the past 14 years.
Mr.
Clarke added that Mullany recognizes his relationship with Ms.
Ridgley is over due to his drinking and has expressed remorse for his actions.
During sentencing, Recorder Ahmed Nadim told Mullany that following his partner after she walked away was unjustifiable, stating, 'If you had been sensible, the argument would have ended there.' Alongside the prison sentence, Mullany was subject to a restraining order forbidding contact with his former partner for five years and prohibiting him from entering the Topping Fold area of Bury.
