When he called the number provided by the paedophile, the phone was answered by Coventry sex offender Peter McCallum’s mother, who accused the caller of encouraging her son.
Despite attempting to get police assistance, he received no response, so step-dad Neil Ivall decided to take matters into his own hands to trap McCallum.
As a result, 33-year-old McCallum of Donegal Close, Canley, Coventry, was sentenced to 32 months in prison at Coventry Crown Court.
McCallum pleaded guilty to two charges of attempting to meet under-age girls following sexual grooming and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Prosecutor Tom Kenning said: “He was arrested on July 11 near his home after he thought he was communicating with a female aged 13 and an 11-year-old during the same conversation.” The court revealed that the Facebook profile McCallum believed belonged to a 13-year-old girl had actually been created by Mr Ivall from Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
