PETER LOGAN FROM GLASGOW AND CARNOUSTIE CONVICTED OF 18-YEAR RAPE CAMPAIGN AGAINST WOMAN AND DAUGHTER
In a harrowing case that spanned nearly two decades, Peter Logan, a 45-year-old man from Glasgow, has been found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault and physical abuse of a woman and her daughter. The offences took place at various locations, including Glasgow and Carnoustie in Angus, with the earliest incidents dating back to 1993 and the latest occurring in 2014.Logan’s criminal activities came to light after the daughter, now an adult, disclosed to her mother that she had been raped by Logan when she was between 15 and 18 years old. This revelation prompted the mother to confront Logan directly, which led both women to report the abuse to the police. The High Court in Glasgow heard detailed testimonies from the victims, painting a disturbing picture of prolonged violence and exploitation.
The mother, who is legally protected from being named, recounted to prosecutor Shanti McGuire how Logan had repeatedly raped her over a period spanning from 1993 to 2010. She described a pattern of physical violence accompanying the sexual assaults, including instances where Logan would slap her across the face and head, seize her arms and body, and even drag her by her hair. She also recounted a particularly frightening incident where Logan grabbed her by the throat, applying pressure while lifting her off the ground, threatening her life during the assault.
The daughter’s account revealed that Logan continued his abusive behavior into her teenage years, raping her on multiple occasions between 2010 and 2014. She also described being physically assaulted, including being grabbed by the throat, slapped, and bitten. Logan’s verbal abuse was also highlighted, with the victim recalling indecent remarks made to her during these assaults. Both victims described how Logan’s actions severely damaged their self-esteem, with the mother recalling that he called her degrading names such as “neanderthal,” “monkey,” “imbecile,” “degenerate,” and “flakey,” often accompanied by physical violence.
During the court proceedings, the victims detailed how Logan would force them into sexual acts, dismissing their refusals with the chilling statement, “I have needs.” The daughter expressed her confusion and shock at being raped, stating, “I didn’t know how to react,” and admitting she felt too overwhelmed to tell anyone at the time. She also revealed that during subsequent assaults, she would pretend to be asleep, feeling helpless and unsure of what else to do.
Logan, who maintained his innocence throughout the trial, denied all allegations, claiming that the women were lying. His defense lawyer, Jennifer Bain, highlighted that Logan is a published author and suffers from agoraphobia, which was diagnosed in the early 1990s. Despite these claims, the court was presented with overwhelming evidence of his guilt.
The judge, Lord Kinclaven, deferred sentencing until April to allow for background reports to be prepared. He made it clear that a custodial sentence was inevitable, and ordered Logan to be remanded in custody. As Logan was led away to the cells, he waved and gave a thumbs-up to family members in court.
The prosecution summarized the case by emphasizing that Peter Logan’s crimes involved violent rapes and relentless verbal abuse. Prosecutor Ms. Maguire stated, “Peter Logan carried out violent rapes accompanied by name calling. He would not take no for an answer,” underscoring the brutality and persistence of his actions.
