PETER FARMAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN MARCH AFTER DECADES-LONG SILENCE

In a case that has spanned over four decades, Peter Farman, a man from March, has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a teenage boy during a job interview in the town of March during the 1970s. The incident, which took place in the late 1970s, only came to light recently after the victim reported the abuse to authorities in 2016, leading to Farman’s eventual arrest and prosecution.

Peterborough Crown Court heard detailed accounts of the disturbing events. The prosecution, led by Lyndsay Cox, explained that the victim, who was between 16 and 17 years old at the time, was described as a shy and reserved young person. The court was told that the teenager had gone to a job interview in March, with no one else present except for Farman, who was conducting the interview. During the process, Farman claimed he needed to perform a medical examination and asked the teenager to remove his trousers, an act that led to the indecent assault.

According to the court, Farman then carried out the assault, which left a lasting impact on the victim. A few weeks following the initial incident, Farman made sexually suggestive comments towards the teenager, who managed to push him away. The court heard that the victim has been severely affected by these events, and continues to receive counseling to cope with the trauma.

Farman’s criminal history was also discussed during the proceedings. It was revealed that he had a pattern of similar offenses dating back to the late 1970s. In October 1979, he received a suspended sentence after being convicted of indecent assault on a 15-year-old girl, which also involved asking her to remove her clothes during a job interview. Further convictions included fines for two indecent assaults in April 1983, both involving similar circumstances where Farman claimed he needed to conduct medical examinations of teenagers. Additionally, in August 2002, he was given a rehabilitation order for another indecent assault.

Judge Sean Enright emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating that only an immediate prison sentence could adequately reflect the gravity of the offense and its impact on the victim. As a result, Farman, now aged 73, was sentenced to 26 months in prison. The court also imposed a restraining order that prohibits Farman from contacting the victim for the next ten years, along with a sexual harm prevention order to protect the victim from further harm.

Farman’s case highlights the long-lasting effects of abuse and the importance of justice, even when crimes are committed many years in the past. His sentencing serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to address and prevent sexual offenses, regardless of the time elapsed since the crimes occurred.
