2011: MAN JAILED FOR SEX ACT AFTER INAPPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION IN ATHERTON
A man who made unsolicited and inappropriate remarks to two young girls in Atherton before performing a sexual act in front of them has been sentenced to 19 months in prison.
Peter Churnside, aged 35, of Valiant Road, Marsh Green, Wigan, has also been ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and is subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for the same period.
At Liverpool Crown Court, Churnside pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a minor under 16.
Prosecutor Karen Brooks explained that he first contacted one of the girls on Facebook, sending inappropriate messages.
On January 20, he visited her home and bought them cigarettes but left when a family member arrived.
They left the property shortly after, and near the garages in Portland Road, Atherton, he performed a sex act in front of them.
Later, he sent a text message saying he would see them after school the next day.
The girls, feeling frightened, shared their concerns with a staff member, leading to police intervention and his arrest.
