WARRINGTON MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ASSAULTING NIECE AND THREATENING WITH KNIVES
A man named Peter Blackburn, aged 58, has been convicted and sentenced for assaulting his niece in Warrington. The court heard that Blackburn, who was in a relationship with his adult niece Sarah Blackburn, threatened her with a knife before physically attacking her at his home.
Two workmen, John Wyn Williams and others, intervened when they heard a scream and saw Blackburn punching and kicking her while she was on the ground.
The incident occurred while Blackburn was intoxicated, having consumed up to ten cans of lager.
During the confrontation, Blackburn reappeared holding a kitchen knife approximately eight inches long, and at one point, he waved knives at witnesses in a threatening manner.
Witnesses reported feeling very shaken and fearful due to his behaviour.
Blackburn was arrested after police arrived, found to be intoxicated, and he admitted to possessing two bladed articles in public.
He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a bladed article and also admitted affray, though he denied assaulting Miss Blackburn.
Prosecutors highlighted that Blackburn had a prior conviction for battery against her in 2018.
The judge sentenced Blackburn to 13 months in prison, noting that his previous convictions and the circumstances, including threats with knives and drunkenness, aggravated his actions.
Blackburn showed no emotion as he was sentenced.
