CRICKETER TURNED TAXI DRIVER JAILED FOR RAPE IN SLOUGH
A PROFESSIONAL cricketer who once played for Trowbridge has been jailed for a total of six and a half years for raping and sexually assaulting a young woman.Perveiz Aziz, 40, was working as an unlicensed taxi driver when he took advantage of a 25-year-old woman on June 18 of the previous year.
The victim, after consuming champagne at Ascot Ladies Day, fell asleep in the back of Aziz's car and awoke to find him raping her, Guildford Crown Court was told.
Aziz denied charges of rape and sexual assault by penetration but was found guilty unanimously of both counts.
He was sentenced on April 14 to six years and six months for rape, and three years for sexual assault by penetration, with both sentences to run concurrently.
Additionally, Aziz was placed on the sex offenders register.
The judge, Robert Fraser, described the offense as aggravated because it was committed on a lone woman after dark, emphasizing that it was a callous rape and that Aziz, who had been a well-known cricketer from Rawalpindi and had played for several UK cricket clubs, including Slough, Finchampstead, Trowbridge, and was also a head coach at Portsmouth, had betrayed the trust of a passenger.
The court noted Aziz's previous good character.
