GLASGOW WOMAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER WITH BROKEN BOTTLE
A woman named Paula Macaulay has been sentenced to five years and nine months in prison for the attempted murder of a 16-year-old boy with a broken gin bottle after the assault near St Enoch shopping centre in Glasgow in August 2023.The incident involved Macaulay smashing a bottle during a confrontation, resulting in a deep wound on the boy's neck that required life-saving surgery.
Court proceedings revealed that police found glass fragments on her clothes after she was detained.
Macaulay had been due to stand trial but pled guilty to attempted murder while claiming she acted under provocation.
The court was told that she fled the scene after the attack, and it was noted that without the skill of surgeons, she might have faced murder charges.
The judge highlighted her guilty plea and her background, including a traumatic childhood and addiction issues, adding that she would have received a sentence of six and a half years if she had not pleaded guilty.
