HARTLEPOOL MAN SENTENCED FOR FRENZIED MURDER OF PARTNER
A 49-year-old man, Paul Smart, has been convicted of the murder of his partner, Angela Smeaton, at their home in Hartlepool.
The court was told that Ms.
Smeaton, aged 50, had injuries to her head and neck and was found deceased at their residence on Eddleston Walk in April.
Smart had initially admitted to manslaughter, claiming he lost control after being provoked, but he denied committing murder.
The jury at Teesside Crown Court found him guilty of murder, resulting in a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years.
The judge described the incident as a 'frenzied assault' and noted that Smart, after stabbing her, contacted emergency services and said, 'I'm sorry love, but you just pushed me too far.' Cleveland Police's Detective Chief Inspector Anne-Marie Salway called the case a tragedy, stating, 'This case is deeply tragic, and Angela's loss has profoundly impacted her family.
While justice has been done, her son has lost his mother and her partner faces a lengthy imprisonment.'
