PAUL ROGERS CAUGHT IN RISCA AND CROSSKEYS BY WELSH CHILDREN PROTECTORS IN SHOCKING PAEDOPHILE HUNTING OPERATION
In a significant case that highlights the ongoing efforts to combat online child exploitation, Paul Rogers, a resident of Crosskeys and Risca, was apprehended following a covert operation by a dedicated Welsh paedophile hunting team.The incident unfolded after Rogers engaged in a disturbing online interaction, believing he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl.
Instead, he was speaking with an adult member of the Welsh Children Protectors, now known as KKS Wales, who pose as minors to catch predators.
According to court records, Rogers was convicted of four separate counts related to attempting to incite a female child to engage in sexual activity.
The court was informed that Rogers initiated contact through an online profile, which he believed belonged to a young girl.
Over the course of their digital exchanges, he sent a series of sexually explicit messages, clearly aiming to groom the supposed minor for sexual encounters.
In addition to the messages, Rogers also transmitted several sexual images, further demonstrating his intent to exploit the child.
However, the individual Rogers believed to be a 13-year-old girl was actually an adult member of the paedophile hunting team.
These teams operate by creating fake profiles to lure and identify predators attempting to engage in illegal activities with minors.
The Welsh Children Protectors, now operating under the name KKS Wales, confronted Rogers at his home in November 2017.
During this confrontation, they presented him with the evidence of his online activity and questioned him about his intentions and actions.
Following the confrontation, the team contacted the police, who arrived at Rogers' residence and arrested him on the spot.
Despite the seriousness of the case, Rogers was scheduled to appear at Newport Crown Court in November 2018.
However, he failed to attend the hearing, prompting authorities to issue a warrant for his arrest.
It was only in January 2018 that Rogers was finally located and brought before the court to face justice.
In court, Rogers was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, but this sentence was suspended for a period of 24 months.
The judge also ordered him to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work and imposed a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement, aimed at addressing his behaviour.
Additionally, Rogers is now required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.
As part of the sentencing, a victim surcharge of £180 was also levied against him, underscoring the serious nature of his offences and the ongoing efforts to protect children from exploitation.
