FARNWORTH MAN SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
2001: A man intoxicated at the time has received a one-year imprisonment sentence after repeatedly assaulting his wife in front of their young daughter. The court was informed that Paul Meacham, aged 43 and previously residing on Verbena Avenue in Farnworth, had gone out drinking for several hours while his wife Joanne and their toddler visited a friend's house.
Upon returning home, Meacham, who had consumed a significant amount of alcohol, accused his wife of overindulging.
He then subjected her to a brutal attack, punching her multiple times in the face and kicking her while their three-year-old watched in fear.
During the assault, Meacham also attempted to prevent his wife from calling police by biting through the telephone cable.
His wife sustained a black eye and numerous bruises across her body, including her chest, arms, and legs.
When detained, he denied recollecting the incident and confessed to previous violence against his wife.
It was also revealed that he had two prior convictions for assault leading to actual bodily harm involving another woman he had cohabited with.
The judge, John Roberts, imposed a 12-month prison sentence, emphasizing that the attack must have been terrifying for his wife.
The seriousness of the offense was underscored by the fact that their young daughter was present and witnessed the assault.
