MAN ATTACKED A WOMAN AND HER DAUGHTER IN A DRUNKEN RAGE, BEFORE THREATENING TO STAB HER SON
A man involved in a violent incident in Bolton attacked a woman and her daughter during a drunken outburst, and also threatened her son with a weapon.Jonathan Wood, aged 33, stayed at the victims’ residence in the Deane area of Bolton on September 25, 2021.
From Farnworth’s Rowena Street, Wood had been drinking with the woman, who eventually fell asleep on the sofa, the prosecution explained in court.
He was awoken by a dispute and responded by striking the woman in the face.
During an ensuing argument with her son, Wood announced his intention to stab him and said he might kill him, court heard.
He then pushed past the woman and went upstairs to her daughter, grabbing her hair in the process.
The girl’s brother escaped by jumping out a bedroom window and a neighbor arrived at the scene.
The neighbor instructed Wood to stop and informed him that police were en route, but Wood approached him aggressively.
Despite attempts to calm him, Wood persisted in displaying hostility, the court was told.
Additionally, Wood confessed to damaging two of the woman’s ornaments during the altercation.
He pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to two counts of assault by beating, two counts of common assault, and criminal damage under £5,000.
Defending, Darin Millar noted that Wood was extremely intoxicated at the time and had little recollection of the events.
Mr.
Millar also remarked that the threats made to the woman’s son were motivated by frustration and anger.
At Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court, Wood received a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
He was also ordered to undergo a nine-month alcohol treatment program, participate in a 30-day rehabilitation scheme, and was subject to a two-year restraining order preventing contact with the victims.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay £528 in court fees and victim surcharge.
