2022; PAUL MARTIN WARNED HE COULD BE JAILED FOR USING MENACING LANGUAGE IN CALLS
A 57-year-old man who could be jailed after admitting sending malicious communications to a woman faces a wait to learn his fate.Paul Martin, of Chedworth Drive, Worcester, had also faced a charge of harassment without violence against former partner Anita Newman, with that trial set to have taken place on Monday.
Martin posed for a picture outside court after an earlier hearing.
During the hearing, prosecutor Sarah Hurd said Martin sent a series of offensive and threatening messages, including calls where he said, "I’m going to kill you," to Ms Newman’s friend Nicole Weston.
Ms Weston feared for her safety following the calls.
The defense argued that Martin and Ms Newman are both alcoholics and that the exchanges were on the same day, with the case being adjourned for a pre-sentence report.
The magistrates announced they would not allow an adjournment and dismissed the harassment charge.
Martin admitted to sending offensive messages to Ms Weston and was scheduled for sentencing on August 8, with options including custody.
He appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court and faces a possible jail sentence after the charges, with a sentence outcome still pending.
