MAN JAILED FOR CHOKING GIRLFRIEND IN ATTACK AT AYR FLAT
A thug who strangled and choked his girlfriend has been jailed after pushing her onto a bed in a life-threatening attack at his Ayr flat.
Paul Hunter, aged 26, pleaded guilty at Ayr Sheriff Court to grabbing the woman by the body, pushing her onto a bed, straddling her, and seizing and compressing her neck to the danger of her life on May 10.
The attack occurred after Hunter had been granted bail on three occasions.
The victim was his partner or ex-partner, and the incident was witnessed by others.
Hunter was remanded initially, with court proceedings revealing a history of on-off relationships and alcohol intoxication.
He was sentenced to 20 months in prison, backdated to his initial remand, and will spend six months on supervised release.
He was also placed on a non-harassment order forbidding contact with the victim.
