MAN JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER AFTER WIFE HIT WITH REMOTE CONTROL
Paul Harvey, an electrical engineer, was involved in a violent episode at his residence in March, during which he threw a remote control at his wife, Gloria Laguna, amid a heated dispute.
The remote, which weighed approximately 4 ounces, struck her on the neck, causing a fatal injury.
Harvey later contacted emergency services and confessed to throwing the remote, stating, ‘I threw the TV digital at her and hit her on the head.’ Although she had pre-existing health conditions, Laguna succumbed to a subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Harvey was initially charged with murder but the charge was later downgraded to manslaughter.
During the court proceedings, Harvey was characterized as someone with a history of violence and difficulties with anger management, including prior assault convictions dating back to 1987.
The judge sentenced him to three years in prison, citing the reckless nature of his actions, as well as the impact of alcohol and drugs, and his established pattern of violent conduct.
