PAUL HAMLETT SENTENCED IN WREXHAM FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 7-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Wrexham, Paul Hamlett, a man with a troubling criminal history, was found guilty of a heinous sexual assault involving a young girl. The incident, which occurred nine years ago, came to light during a recent trial at Chester Crown Court, where Hamlett was convicted of assaulting a girl on her seventh birthday.

Hamlett, who was 38 years old at the time of his conviction, was previously serving a seven-year sentence for raping a teenage girl. His criminal record is extensive, including convictions for assault, drug dealing, and a serious offense against a police officer, for which he received a four-year prison sentence. He is also registered as a sex offender for life, reflecting the severity of his past crimes.

The latest conviction was based on the testimony of the victim, now 16 years old, who described her experience during the trial. She explained that Hamlett, a family friend, had asked her on her seventh birthday if he could take her to meet his girlfriend. Instead of fulfilling this request, Hamlett took her to his flat located in Hightown, Wrexham, where he indecently assaulted her in his bedroom. The girl managed to contact her stepfather during the ordeal, who promptly came to pick her up and ensure her safety.

The case was brought to public attention after a family friend read newspaper reports about the rape trial, which prompted further investigation. Prosecutor Karl Scholz highlighted Hamlett’s extensive criminal background, emphasizing his history of indecent assault against a nine-year-old girl, along with multiple convictions for assault and drug offenses.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Phillip Hughes addressed Hamlett directly, condemning his actions. The judge stated, “You have been convicted by the jury of indecently assaulting a seven-year-old girl. I cannot give you any credit for a guilty plea because you tried to brazen it out in front of the jury. You made the girl relive her ordeal because she had to give evidence. It was plainly a frightening experience.”

Judge Hughes further explained that, although Hamlett was already serving a seven-year sentence, the court would impose an additional 18 months of imprisonment, to be served consecutively. This would bring the total imprisonment period to over eight and a half years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the need for justice in this disturbing case.
