CHILD RAPIST JAILED AS SUPPORTIVE WIFE FACES BACKLASH OVER ALLEGED VICTIM IDENTIFICATION POSTS
A convicted sex offender responsible for raping and abusing young girls from the age of three has received a prison sentence. At Glasgow High Court, Paul Michael Douglas of Grangemouth was found guilty on multiple counts, including sexual assault of a girl under 13 through penetration, non-penetrative sexual assault of a girl under 13, two counts of rape, assault resulting in serious injury, and additional charges related to lewd acts on children.
The victims were just three and seven years old.
It was established that Douglas forced sexual acts on the three-year-old girl for his own gratification.
He also sexually assaulted the seven-year-old girl while a woman, who was present and chose not to intervene, increased the TV volume to drown out the children's cries.
She also observed further abuse but did not take action.
According to the court, Douglas, a construction worker, was characteristically violent and controlling towards women, with several instances resulting in broken bones, bruises, and cuts.
One very violent episode involved striking a woman with a frying pan, after which he caught her and violently raped her when she tried to escape.
He also committed a brutal rape just days after a woman had given birth and repeated the offense during her subsequent pregnancy.
During this second incident, the woman went into early labour and was left without hospital assistance.
Further assaults included punching a woman who was breastfeeding her six-week-old infant.
Douglas was sentenced this week to 10 years in prison.
He is also required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
His wife has publicly shown her support for him but may soon face trouble after sharing details of the victims online.
Authorities believe there could be more victims due to his modus operandi.
Douglas, who grew up in Barlanark, Glasgow, is now serving his sentence at HMP Barlinnie.
