HEBBURN MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND CONTROLLING PARTNER
A man named Paul Brown, aged 51 and from Hebburn, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for his abusive behavior towards his partner.He had previously tormented and threatened her during their relationship, which started in June 2022.
Brown prevented her from seeing friends, accused her of cheating on him, and deluged her with abusive messages.
His victim described how she no longer recognized herself and remained in fear.
She stated, "He knew I had been a victim of domestic abuse before, but he promised never to treat me badly.
I trusted him, which was a mistake." Brown's actions included controlling and stalking behaviors, such as sending numerous emails, leaving voicemails, and making unwanted visits, including a gun gesture.
The court heard that Brown isolated her, monitored her whereabouts, accused her of infidelity, and spoke to her in a demeaning manner.
His victim suffered anxiety, loss of friends, and feelings of suicidal thoughts.
The judge, Nathan Moxon, acknowledged the distress caused and deemed him a high risk of serious harm.
An indefinite restraining order was also issued against Brown.
The case highlights the severity of controlling and stalking behaviors which resulted in the court's decision to imprison him for his misconduct.
