PAUL BOSTON FROM WORCESTER JAILED FOR RAPE IN SHOCKING INCIDENT
In July 2001, a disturbing case unfolded involving Paul Boston, a soldier stationed at Bicester, Oxon, who was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl in Worcester. The incident took place during a social gathering at a flat in Worcester, where alcohol consumption was heavy, including vodka and lager. The girl, who was a guest at the party, was reportedly intoxicated and unable to fully recall the events of the night.According to court proceedings, the girl fell asleep after the party and woke up around 2 a.m. to find Paul Boston on top of her. Witnesses and medical examinations confirmed that sexual intercourse had occurred, despite Boston initially denying any sexual activity. Forensic evidence later proved the assault, leading to his conviction.
Prosecutor Mr. Malcolm Parkes described the scene at Worcester Crown Court, emphasizing the severity of the crime. The girl was described as devastated by her experience, which had a profound impact on her mental health. She had attempted to take her own life twice, and her mother also required treatment for depression due to the trauma.
Paul Boston, aged 30 at the time, admitted to the rape in September of the previous year. He was a lance corporal in the Royal Logistic Corps and had served in Northern Ireland and Bosnia. During the trial, his defense lawyer, Mr. William Rickarby, highlighted Boston’s otherwise exemplary military record and his awareness of the consequences of sexual violence. It was also noted that Boston was heavily affected by alcohol during the incident but did not use violence or threaten the girl with a weapon.
Judge David Matthews sentenced Boston to six years in prison, acknowledging that the sentence could have been longer if not for Boston’s remorse and the fact that he spared the girl from the ordeal of giving evidence. The judge also stated that Boston had taken advantage of the girl’s intoxicated state for his own sexual gratification. Furthermore, Boston was ordered to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period, reflecting the seriousness of his crime and the need for ongoing monitoring.
