BARNSEY MAN PAUL BLACKSHAW GUILTY OF RAPE IN HOYLAND
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Barnsley, a man named Paul Blackshaw has been convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl. The incident took place in the evening hours of September 18, 2021, and the case was brought to a close after a four-day trial at Sheffield Crown Court.
According to court proceedings, the victim was walking home alone along Wentworth Road in Hoyland after an evening out with friends.
It was around 10 pm when Blackshaw, aged 43 and a resident of Barnsley, followed her as she made her way through the quiet streets.
The jury was told that shortly thereafter, Blackshaw committed a heinous act of sexual assault in a nearby field, leaving the young girl distressed, frightened, and alone in the darkness.
Following the assault, a police investigation was swiftly initiated.
Barnsley CID officers conducted extensive inquiries, which eventually led to the identification and arrest of Blackshaw.
During his police interview, Blackshaw denied any involvement in the crime and was unable to provide a reasonable explanation for how his DNA was found on the girl’s clothing.
Despite his denials, the evidence was compelling enough for the jury to find him guilty of the charge of raping a female under 16.
Blackshaw, who resides on Oak Close in Barnsley, showed no remorse during the proceedings.
The jury reached a unanimous verdict of guilt, and he was remanded into custody immediately.
He is scheduled to appear for sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court on October 6, 2023.
The case has left the local community in shock, highlighting the ongoing concerns about safety and protection for young people in the Barnsley area.
