BOURNEMOUTH MAN CONVICTED OF RAPING GRANDMOTHER IN OWN HOME
A man named Paul Bailey, also known as Paul Wheatley, was convicted by a jury for subjecting a Bournemouth grandmother to a horrifying ordeal in her own home. The court was informed that Bailey, 49, had bolted the door to prevent her escape before raping her twice.
During the trial at Bournemouth Crown Court, Bailey denied three charges of rape and one of false imprisonment.
However, the jury of seven men and five women found him not guilty of one rape but guilty of the others.
In recorded interviews played during court proceedings, the victim described being 'mortally terrified' and recounted the terrifying experience on February 26 of that year.
She said, 'It was quite horrendous.
It all felt very, very degrading and horrible.' She added, 'I could feel myself not being able to breathe.' The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stated that Bailey told her she would not see her children again if she screamed, and described feeling as if she was 'fighting for my life – it shocked me tremendously.' She remarked, 'He was stronger than me and he overpowered me.
I couldn’t risk leaving my children.
When he left it was such a relief, I was glad to be alive.' Bailey is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday, August 23, for sentencing.
