DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDER SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR ABUSE AGAINST TWO WOMEN
A man named Paul Allan, aged 48, from Sunnyside Road, was sentenced to 44 months in jail at Hamilton Sheriff Court for committing domestic violence against two partners, including while they were pregnant.Allan was described as callous and told one sobbing victim that "tears won't work with me", while pressing a cushion down on another woman's face, causing her to struggle for breath.
He admitted to a series of charges including assaults, threats, and property damage.
The prosecution detailed incidents dating back to 2007, involving physical and emotional abuse, including choking, dragging, and threatening his victims with weapons like a screwdriver during pregnancy.
Allan also assaulted one woman at a flat in Wishaw while she was pregnant, dragging her by the ankles and causing her head to hit the bed frame.
After ending the relationship, he continued to abuse a second woman in Bellshill, Shotts, and Renfrew, between 2016 and 2020, including threatening her with a screwdriver near her stomach and injuring her in an assault that required hospital treatment.
He also threatened to kill her and her dog.
After reuniting briefly with his first victim, he assaulted her again in Wishaw in 2021, choking her, punching her, and putting his hand over her mouth.
He was also convicted of smashing her car window with a hammer and breaching bail conditions by emailing her.
Allan suffers from depression and PTSD but was deemed suitable for a domestic abuse programme.
The Sheriff stated that his conduct left no alternative but custodial sentencing, and ordered non-harassment orders banning him from contacting the victims for 10 years.
