PATRICK GREEN FROM IVER GREEN AND SUTTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AFTER GROOMING GIRL ONLINE
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online grooming and the exploitation of minors, Patrick Green, aged 45, was found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving a young girl from Sutton. The court proceedings revealed that Green, a known resident of Iver Green and Sutton, engaged in a calculated campaign to lure a vulnerable girl into sexual activity shortly after his release from prison.According to court records, Green used the internet as his tool for grooming, sending explicit images of his manhood and his naked torso through various chat rooms. He openly boasted about his past sexual encounters with underage girls and expressed a desire to have sex with the girl before she reached the age of 16. His actions demonstrated a clear pattern of predatory behavior aimed at exploiting the innocence of a minor.
The case traced back to October 2000, when Green, then 33 years old and working as an export clerk, met his 13-year-old victim at Sutton railway station. Over a period of time, Green repeatedly met the girl at the station, gaining her trust through online communication before arranging to meet her in person. Their meetings took place near her home, at Brighton Road station, and eventually led to Green inviting her back to his flat in Iver Green, Buckinghamshire. It was there that he committed multiple acts of sexual abuse against her.
Green’s criminal activities extended beyond the physical abuse. He was also found to possess eight indecent photographs of children, further illustrating his depravity. His guilty plea covered two counts of indecent assault, four counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, and one count of attempted unlawful sex with a minor. The court heard that Green initially pretended to be a 15-year-old boy to flatter the girl, claiming that their feelings would keep them together and expressing his luck at having her in his life. However, when she failed to meet him on one occasion, Green sent her an email lamenting that his gift of a rose looked wilted and that he felt foolish waiting for her.
Judge Christopher Tyrer sentenced Green to five years in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his offenses. In his remarks, the judge condemned Green’s actions, stating, “The victim of your sexual offences was a child. She was naive and vulnerable to predators like you. This was a disgraceful betrayal of a child’s innocence. You wormed your way into her affection and confidence and effectively targeted her for your sexual gratification.”
Judge Tyrer also highlighted the premeditated and persistent nature of Green’s crimes, describing his behavior as both calculated and determined. Notably, this case marked a significant legal precedent, as Green received an above-average sentence intended to serve as a deterrent to other online predators. The court’s decision was supported by the girl’s parents, who chose to remain anonymous for legal reasons, and they expressed approval of the sentence.
In his final remarks, Judge Tyrer underscored the importance of safeguarding children in the digital age, noting, “Children are encouraged to use the internet for educational purposes. Their curiosity is bound to lead them to explore sites they should avoid.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking online and the need for vigilance to protect minors from exploitation.
