ALAN ELLISON FROM SUTTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEVEN-YEAR CHILD ABUSE IMAGE HABIT REVEALED
In a case that has shocked the community of Sutton, Alan Ellison, a local resident, was found to have been secretly viewing and downloading child abuse images over a period of seven years.Despite the severity of his actions, Ellison was spared immediate imprisonment but received a suspended jail sentence, highlighting the complexities of justice in such sensitive cases.
According to court records, Ellison, who resides on Prince Road in Sutton, admitted to downloading more than 50 images depicting child abuse.
These images included some classified as level four, which is considered the second most extreme category of such material.
The court proceedings revealed that Ellison had kept this disturbing habit hidden from his wife for nearly a decade, only coming to light during the investigation.
Prosecutor Brinkman May detailed the police operation that led to Ellison’s arrest.
In January, officers executed a search warrant at his home, where they found Ellison and his wife present.
During the search, Ellison acknowledged to officers that he was aware of the warrant and admitted to viewing these images over the past seven years.
He explained that he had come across the material while searching for adult images online.
Although he claimed to have no sexual interest in children, he admitted to using search terms such as 'Lolita' and 'young,' which directed him to the illicit images.
Ellison also revealed that he had never spoken about his viewing habits to anyone, and his wife was unaware of the extent of his online activity, although she might have suspected he was viewing adult pornography.
Police seized four computers from his residence, and forensic analysis uncovered a collection of images stored in the deleted files on these devices.
The court heard that Ellison acts as a carer for his wife, and the revelations have caused significant distress within his family.
His defense lawyer, Alan Ambridge, emphasized the impact of the case on Ellison’s personal life, stating, “You don’t need me to spell out the impact of this incident on the family.” The lawyer also noted that Ellison had sought some assistance prior to the court hearing and expressed his willingness to continue receiving help to prevent any recurrence of such behavior.
While magistrates acknowledged that they had the authority to impose a custodial sentence, they took into account Ellison’s early guilty plea, his cooperation with police, and his personal circumstances.
As a result, they sentenced him to 36 weeks in jail, suspended for two years.
This means that if Ellison commits any further offenses within that period, he will serve the original sentence in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay £165 in court costs, placed on the sex offenders’ register, and required to keep police informed of his whereabouts.
He must also attend counseling sessions aimed at addressing his behavior.
Overall, the case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the justice system in dealing with individuals involved in child abuse image offenses, balancing punishment with opportunities for rehabilitation.
