BIRMINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER KILLING WIFE IN FRONT OF CHILDREN
A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after stabbing his wife to death in front of their children at their home.
Shaeen Akhtar, 49, a mother of five, confronted her husband, Parvez Akhtar, who had returned home after a night of gambling and drinking, and asked him to leave.
In response, Parvez pulled out a combat-style knife from his trousers and stabbed her.
Parvez Akhtar admitted to the murder during the court proceedings.
Police revealed that he routinely carried the knife for his own protection.
The incident occurred in Birmingham in October, and he was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court, with a minimum term of 20 years before parole eligibility.
Family members issued a tribute stating, 'Our amazing, caring, beloved mother passed away on the 15th October 2017.
We hope she is in a better place, looking down on us and nodding her head in approval.
We want to tell her and the world, she will always be in our hearts.'
