MENTAL HEALTH BLAMED AS NEWCASTLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO KILLING PARTNER IN FRENZIED STABBING
The article reports that Parvel Cina, aged 27, was severely mentally unwell at the time he launched a brutal attack on his partner Zaneta Balazova, whom he killed by stabbing her 80 times in their family home in Benwell, Newcastle.Cina was found to have severe schizophrenia and was considered a danger to the public, having started believing that Zaneta was the devil and was eating human brains.
Court proceedings revealed that Cina pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was sent to a secure hospital.
The attack occurred after Cina had a court appearance for assaulting Zaneta, and it was witnessed by their young children, aged five and seven, who watched as their mother was stabbed.
A neighbour heard the children screaming during the incident.
Cina’s father, Parvel Snr, 54, claimed that his son's use of legal highs contributed to his violent behavior, stating: “He used to be a quiet boy, normal and looked after his family.
He was very loving, he loved his kids and was very friendly.
It was all good until he started changing.
When he lived back in the Czech Republic he had never used legal highs but he fell in with people who used them over here and started using them himself.
They changed him and he got worse and worse.” The post mortem revealed Zaneta had sustained 80 knife injuries, including fatal wounds in her heart and jugular vein.
Cina was arrested and later pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility, after which he was sent to a secure hospital for treatment.
