JAIL SENTENCE FOR 64-YEAR-OLD MAN CONVICTED OF HORSHAM RAPE
A 64-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced following an incident in Horsham.Oslen Kelman, residing on Lambert Road in Lambeth, London, faced charges of three counts of rape involving a woman known to him.
The female victim, now in her 50s, reported that Kelman assaulted her in a restroom at a motorway service station during the early 1990s.
She further stated that the rape occurred multiple times over an extended period.
When the allegations were initially brought to Sussex Police, the victim received specialized support from officers and partner agencies, which continued throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
Kelman was taken into custody, charged, and initially faced a trial that ended with a hung jury in March 2025.
After a second trial at Lewes Crown Court, Kelman was convicted on one count of rape related to the motorway incident and acquitted of the other two charges on 28 November.
On the following Friday, 30 January, the court sentenced Kelman to four years in prison.
Detective Constable Gemma Nickols commented: “I want to commend the victim for her bravery and persistence in reporting Oslen Kelman’s actions, which enabled us to bring him to justice.
Thanks to her courage, Kelman is now serving time, having faced accountability for his crimes.
We encourage other victims of sexual offences, regardless of when it happened, to come forward and report to Sussex Police.
We are committed to supporting you, investigating thoroughly, and pursuing justice.”
