A man who attempted to rape an unconscious woman in Croydon will face deportation after completing his prison sentence.Osama Alkhair was caught trying to assault a woman who was passed out due to alcohol and drug use on December 29 of the previous year.
The woman was partially naked from the waist down and Alkhair was in the process of removing his own trousers when a bystander intervened.
Alkhair, an asylum seeker with settled status residing in a hostel in Croydon, denied the attempted rape but was found guilty by a jury on September 12.
He was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on September 15 to seven years and four months in prison, with the judge stating he would serve two-thirds before being liable for automatic deportation.
Prosecutor Ravi Dogra mentioned that Alkhair claimed his date of birth was January 1, 1988, intending to suggest he was 37, though this information could not be confirmed.
An asylum seeker from Sudan who left his family behind to escape persecution, Alkhair had been granted permanent leave to remain in the UK and was working as a laborer before his arrest.
The judge emphasized that Alkhair took advantage of a woman who was completely incapable of consenting due to intoxication, and warned that unless he wins an appeal, he will be deported after serving his sentence.
