OLADIP OSHODI SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN DAGENHAM FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND RAPE
A man from Dagenham, Oladip Oshodi, has been handed a severe prison sentence of 25 years following a harrowing assault that culminated in his victim leaping from a window to escape his violence.Oshodi, aged 48, was found guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court on multiple serious charges, including rape, administering a noxious substance, and causing grievous bodily harm. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing account of events that took place on July 11, 2023, at his residence located in Mayesbrook, Dagenham.
According to court testimonies, the victim, a woman known to Oshodi, was subjected to a brutal and non-consensual sexual assault despite her clear and repeated refusals. The assault was not limited to sexual violence; Oshodi also inflicted a severe beating upon her, demonstrating a pattern of violent behavior. The assault left the woman in a state of terror and desperation.
In her frantic attempt to escape the ordeal, the woman made a desperate leap from a ground-floor window onto the street below. She collapsed upon landing, suffering injuries that necessitated immediate medical attention. Fortunately, passersby who witnessed her fall quickly responded, alerting emergency services and providing aid to ensure her safety.
Following the incident, detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s East Area Public Protection Unit swiftly apprehended Oshodi the next day. He was taken into custody and remained remanded throughout the legal process. The court convicted him on all charges on May 10 of this year, bringing a measure of justice for the victim.
Post-incident, the woman received hospital treatment and ongoing support from specialized officers trained to assist victims of sexual offences. Detective Constable Serena McGhee expressed her views on the case, stating, “Oshodi is a dangerous man and it is right that he will now serve a long sentence in a place where he will not pose a threat to women. I commend the bravery of the victim and the witnesses in this case.” She further emphasized the lack of remorse shown by Oshodi during the investigation and trial, adding, “Oshodi showed no remorse throughout the investigation and trial, and I am pleased that he has been made to face the consequences of his actions.”
PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer dedicated to supporting victims of sexual offences, highlighted the gravity of the victim’s actions, saying, “The survivor in this case was fleeing for her life when she jumped onto the street to escape this man. I hope that the sentence handed down encourages other women who have been the victim of sexual offences to come forward. We are here to support you and our mission is to keep you safe and support you every step of the way.”
