NICK EVANS FROM AMMANFORD ADMITS INTERNET CHILD SEX OFFENCE BEFORE SWANSEA COURT
In a significant development at Swansea Crown Court, an individual from Ammanford, identified as Nick Evans, has formally admitted to committing a serious internet-based child sex offence. The proceedings took place during a plea and trial preparation hearing, where Evans, aged 27 and residing at Clos y Coleg in Ammanford, appeared before Judge Paul Thomas.Evans confessed to attempting to incite a minor under the age of 16 to engage in sexual activities. This attempt spanned over a period of five days in May 2017, during which he engaged in online communications aimed at grooming the child for sexual purposes. The court was informed that Evans’s actions constituted a clear attempt to manipulate and exploit a vulnerable minor through digital means.
Furthermore, Evans denied an additional charge that accused him of attempting to meet a child following a period of sexual grooming. The prosecution, represented by Helen Randall, confirmed to Judge Thomas that the pleas entered by Evans were acceptable and aligned with the prosecution’s case. The court was told that the case would proceed to sentencing on June 6, after the completion of reports to be prepared by a probation officer and a psychiatrist, which will likely assess Evans’s risk and suitability for rehabilitation.
While Evans was granted bail for the time being, the court imposed strict conditions, including an order for him to register as a sex offender with the police. This measure is part of the ongoing efforts to monitor and manage individuals convicted of such offences, especially those involving minors and online grooming. The case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding internet safety and the importance of vigilance in protecting children from exploitation through digital platforms.
