WHITEHAVEN PENSIONER ADMITS MAKING HUNDREDS OF INDECENT CHILD IMAGES
A PENSIONER has admitted making hundreds of indecent images of young children over nearly a decade.Nicholas Guy Coverdale, 76, of Whitehaven, entered guilty pleas to the following charges when he appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court: · Making 39 category A indecent images of a child (the most serious category of child abuse images) · Making 64 category B indecent images of a child · Making 632 category C indecent images of a child Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said there were a number of images across different devices and some of the children shown were ‘particularly young’.
Some of the images were of children aged between three and four, and others were aged between five and six, and seven and eight.
The images were being stored across three different devices, including USBs.
The offences took place in Whitehaven between June 2013 and March 2022.
Ms Fee said the matter was not suitable for sentencing in the magistrates’ court.
Eleanor Brambell, defending, requested a pre-sentence report be prepared by the Probation Service.
She said there was a possibility a custodial sentence could be suspended.
Magistrates agreed the case should be dealt with at the crown court.
Coverdale, of Hillcrest Avenue, Whitehaven, will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on October 20.
He was granted unconditional bail.
