Brown was registered as a Biomedical Scientist (“BMS”) with the HCPC.

At the time of the incident leading to his conviction, he was employed by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust (“the Trust”), working at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

He held a senior position, described by a Consultant Haematologist who provided a character reference as the senior coagulation BMS and laboratory manager.

On 8th December 2023, Brown appeared in Bournemouth Crown Court and pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, as an adult.

He returned to court on 26 January 2024, where the following sentence was handed down: • Four months' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months; • A 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement (“RAR”); • 200 hours of unpaid work; • A sexual harm prevention order for seven years; • Mandatory registration on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years; • Forfeiture and destruction of a mobile phone; • A surcharge of £154 and a contribution of £1,000 toward prosecution costs.

The conviction stemmed from online chats Brown conducted using a second phone he kept for sexual conversations.

Police recovered this device from his workplace.

His messages involved interactions with an individual he met via Facebook, who claimed to be 13 years old.

These conversations, initiated around March 2022, spanned several weeks.

During these chats, Brown expressed sexual interest and requested a photo of the recipient’s breasts.

The person on the other end was not actually 13 but was part of an online activist group, which eventually reported the incident to authorities.

On 30 July 2022, members of this activist group confronted Brown at his home.

Police quickly arrested him and seized his second mobile phone from his workplace.

The following day, he was released on bail with conditions prohibiting contact with children and restricting access to his residence.

Initially, Brown made no comment to police and refused to disclose his device PINs, citing legal advice.

Later, he voluntarily provided a statement and furnished the PINs, allowing police to access his devices.
