JEALOUS LOVER ATTACKED GIRLFRIEND
A JEALOUS lover who attacked his girlfriend and cut himself during a violent rage is facing jail.Warrington Crown Court heard on Friday how Nicholas Buckley grabbed petrified ex-girlfriend Laura Baker by her hair, banged her against the floor and trashed their former home, in Wyncroft Road, Widnes, on December 4, after she had been on a night out with friends.
Joanne Parsons, prosecuting, said the 23-year-old, of Rainhill, became aggressive after Miss Baker refused to let him join her on a girls' night out.
"When she returned home at about 3am there was damage to a wall and a knife stuck in a wall," she said.
"He pushed her onto the bed before actually pushing the bed on top of her.
She managed to get out of the bedroom, but he grabbed her by her hair and pulled her, which caused her to fall down the stairs and bang her head.
She ran out of the house screaming, but he dragged her back in and kicked and punched her.
He kept asking her where she had been." The tirade continued for several hours as Buckley began hurling abuse, smashing furniture before starting to cut himself with a knife.
He also banged Miss Baker's head against a wall.
Robert Golinski, defending, said Buckley's behaviour was a result of cocaine and alcohol abuse and he was taking steps to deal with his problem.
However, Judge Stephen Clarke said Buckley would almost certainly face a prison sentence.
"I just believe this is a piece of offending with a domestic background that needs to be dealt with in a severe way," he said.
Buckley, who was given conditional bail, will be sentenced on March 6.
