NICHOLAS ALLSUP FROM RHUDDLAN CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN FRANCE MUST REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDER

In a recent legal development, Nicholas Allsup, a resident of Rhuddlan, has been mandated to register as a sex offender in the United Kingdom following his conviction for a sexual assault that took place in France. The case, which has garnered attention due to its international implications, was heard at Caernarfon Magistrates Court.

Allsup, aged 71, appeared before the court to acknowledge his conviction, which stemmed from an incident in 2005 when he was residing in the Toulon region of southern France. He admitted to having served a three-year prison sentence related to the offence. Despite this, Allsup maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, asserting that the conviction was unjust and that it was unfair for the allegations to continue to affect him across borders.

During the hearing, Allsup, who lives on Tan yr Eglwys Road in Rhuddlan, explained that at the time of the incident, he was living in France and often wore traditional attire, such as a kilt. He claimed that his appearance and mannerisms had attracted the attention of the girl’s parents, leading to his agreement to provide English lessons to the girl. However, he later stated that false allegations were made against him, describing the situation as an ambush.

Gareth Preston, the prosecutor, outlined that the application for a notification order was based on Allsup’s conviction for a relevant offence, specifically an indecent assault and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, committed in France. The court was informed that the French court’s decision could not be challenged or reviewed by the UK court.

Deputy District Judge Gerallt Jones confirmed that he was unable to override the French court’s ruling and ordered that Allsup be subject to the statutory notification requirements. The judge instructed Allsup to contact the police officers present in court to facilitate the necessary arrangements for his registration. It was made clear that Allsup’s details would remain on the UK’s Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, reflecting the seriousness of the offence and the importance of ongoing monitoring.

This case highlights the cross-border nature of certain criminal offences and the legal obligations that follow convictions, regardless of where the offence was committed. It also underscores the ongoing efforts by authorities to ensure that individuals convicted of sexual offences are properly registered and monitored to protect the community.
