EAST CROYDON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL RAPE AND FALSE IMPRISONMENT
An offender from East Croydon, Neil Huggins, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes. The court found him guilty of seven counts of rape, one count of false imprisonment, one count of sexual assault, and one count of actual bodily harm on April 7.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman, contacted police shortly before 11 pm on October 4 after being held against her will for days at an address in Grove Road, Thornton Heath.
Huggins had kept her captive, beaten her, and repeatedly raped her during this time.
She also reported that he urinated in her mouth, whipped her, and strangled her with a cable wire.
Huggins claimed the sexual activities were consensual and denied involvement in assault or false imprisonment, alleging the victim could have escaped through windows or the garage door.
The victim managed to escape and called the police from hospital, where she was supported by specialist officers.
Huggins was arrested the next day and denied the charges during police interviews.
Detective Sergeant Sherlock described the crimes as a total disregard for the victim as a person, emphasizing the severity and brutality of Huggins' actions and expressing admiration for the victim's bravery in giving evidence.
The court’s sentence aims to help the victim move forward from the traumatic experience.
